Upper Buffalo Wilderness Area

Hiked into the Hawksbill Crag/Whitaker Creek area to traverse the length of Whitaker Creek. This is a beautiful creek...especially as the trees were flush with new spring green color. I went in via the trail to Hawksbill Crag at 5:40 in the morning and made it to within 1/3 mile of the Buffalo before sunrise and then made my way upstream in search of the source...or at least Compton's Double Falls. Many waterfalls and boulders were encountered along the way. Temp going in was 60 with sun with a high around 80 degrees. Total distance around 10.5 miles.
